The Prince and Princess of Wales will attend the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow today, Kensington Palace has announced. The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, as they are known in Scotland, will watch some of the sports fixtures on the penultimate day of the event.
William and Catherine will also spend time with Team Wales athletes and their families, including those supported by SportsAid. The Princess has been Patron of SportsAid since 2013 and has met many young athletes helped by the charity, as well as Olympians and Paralympians who were previously supported by the organisation, at training days, performance workshops and fundraising events.
Among those meeting the royal couple will be the next generation of national competitors being supported through the Team England Futures project.
The Team England Futures project will see talented young athletes and aspiring support staff given the opportunity to attend the Glasgow Games and take a first-hand look behind-the-scenes to prepare them to deliver medal-winning performances as Team England, Team GB or ParalympicsGB debutants at future Games.
No details have been given on whether any of their three children will join them at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday.
The Games have been well attended by royals throughout the event, with the King and Queen attending the Opening Ceremony – having arrived in Doctor Who’s Tardis, and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal attending a variety of sporting events.
Yesterday, Edward returned to the Bowls and Para Bowls for the second time, having visited last week, and was joined by his wife.
They sat in the front row of one of the stands and chatted with some of the many volunteers that help to keep the Games running like clockwork.
