‘Landman’ Finds Perfect New Cast Candidate as Taylor Sheridan Favorite Officially Confirms Interest

There is always a lot happening around Taylor Sheridan, but lately the steady run of updates has made his schedule look especially full. The writer behind Yellowstone and roughly half of the Paramount+ homepage just told fans on the Rodeo Time podcast that the long-rumored 6666 spin-off was never real. Paramount confirmed days ago that Landman Season 3 is still being written, which almost certainly pushes the oil drama out of its comfortable fall slot and into 2027.

Between the Call of Duty movie, the F.A.S.T. thriller, a Tulsa King spin-off, and a looming move to NBCUniversal in 2028, the general read right now is that Sheridan is stretched about as thin as a person can be. One thing that has never been in short supply, though, is actors who want to get into his world. This week, one of the people who arguably helped build that world in the first place raised his hand for the show fans care about most.

Thad Luckinbill, who stars in Lioness, has a longstanding place in Taylor Sheridan’s orbit. Most viewers know him as CIA officer Kyle McManus on Lioness, but his relationship with Sheridan predates the entire TV empire. Luckinbill’s company, Black Label Media, financed and produced Sicario back in 2015, the film that turned a former Sons of Anarchy actor into one of Hollywood’s most in-demand screenwriters. He produced the sequel, too, and just this week he told Entertainment Weekly that conversations about a third Sicario film are ongoing. In a new interview with MovieWeb, Luckinbill was asked which Sheridan series he would most like to join beyond Lioness, and his answer came with a very specific reason. Luckinbill says:

“I grew up in northwest Oklahoma, so I relate a lot to Landman. A lot of the people I grew up with are either doing that or their parents did it. My granddad worked at an oil refinery, so there’s a lot of nostalgia when I watch that show. I’d probably say that.”

Luckinbill was born in Enid, Oklahoma, which gives him a personal connection to the oil-country backdrop Landman draws from, and before Lioness, he spent more than two decades on The Young and the Restless, giving him deep experience working within a long-running ensemble. Sheridan has also shown a clear tendency to work with familiar actors across multiple projects. At this point, there does seem to be a fairly established pipeline between his casts, and a Lioness regular with a Sicario producing credit would appear to sit relatively close to that circle.

Whether there’s actually room for him is the more honest question. Landman already juggles a sizable ensemble around Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris, and with Season 3 still on the page, nobody outside Sheridan’s office knows what the show needs yet. It’s probably wise to treat this as an actor expressing interest rather than a role in motion. But if the scripts are not finished, the casting process may not be either.
