NASA’s Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft lifted off from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on April 1, sending Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen on a planned 10-day Artemis II test flight around the moon and back.
On Day 7, the Orion spacecraft leaves the moon’s sphere of influence as the crew begins its return phase.
The crew will communicate with scientists on the ground to discuss observations from the lunar flyby, according to NASA.
Later in the day, NASA conducts the first of three return trajectory correction burns to adjust Orion’s path back to Earth. After this, the crew will be largely off-duty, giving them a chance to rest before their return to Earth.
NASA holds a daily news conference at 4 p.m. ET on April 7.
