Following David Corenswet’s DCU debut as Superman in July 2025, DC Studios will fully introduce Milly Alcock’s Kara Zor-El this summer in Supergirl, the first solo movie for this hero in over 40 years. Following her cameo in the final scene of Superman, Alcock will embrace her first DC solo movie, which is inspired by comic writer Tom King’s work on the Woman of Tomorrow run from DC Comics. This will set her on an epic journey through the galaxy alongside a young girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll (played by Eve Ridley), joining her on a quest for vengeance after losing their families.
Early trailers for this movie have teased an epic adventure across space, highlighting Kara’s close bond with Krypto the Super-dog before his life is put into danger. Now, as the movie inches closer to its theatrical release date, new marketing material helps set the stage for one of this universe’s most powerful heroines to take the spotlight.
DC Studios released a new behind-the-scenes teaser for Supergirl, featuring short quotes from DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, director Craig Gillespie, and stars Milly Alcock and Jason Momoa. Showing new footage from the film and B-roll clips, Gunn called Kara Zor-El “a complete force to be reckoned with” and spoke on Alcock bringing “this rock n’ roll vibe to the character” before Momoa chimed in, saying Supergirl is “not afraid to punch everyone in the face.”
Gillespie followed those comments by praising Alcock for “absolutely killing it” and “really [inhabiting] this character in the best way.” For him, he could not “imagine anybody else in this role” as he helps bring the Kryptonian heroine to life on the big screen.
James Gunn clearly has no intention to nerf Supergirl’s powers in the DCU, teasing Alcock’s impactful performance in the role for the franchise’s second full-length theatrical movie. Gillespie and Momoa seem to back up that sentiment after their experience working directly with her on this film, which should set Kara Zor-El up for an extensive future with the DC Universe.
For the time being, this movie will show her fighting plenty of antagonists, led by Matthias Schoenarts’ Krem of the Yellow Hills, whose presence will deeply impact both Kara and Ruthye. Responsible for killing Ruthye’s family, Krem is also known for gravely injuring Krypto the Super-Dog in the comics, leading to Kara going after him with all her might and hoping to get vengeance for herself.
Momoa will also get his fair share of time working with Alcock in this movie, as he takes on his dream role as Lobo three years after finishing his run as Aquaman in the former DC Extended Universe. Known as an alien bounty hunter, he is seen riding his classic motorcycle and getting into a tussle with Kara in the trailer, although it is still unclear how big his role in the movie will be.
Supergirl will debut in theaters on Jun. 26, 2026.
