Norfolk Sailor Missing for Days; Family and Investigators Plead for Public’s Help

A search is underway for a missing 21-year-old sailor last seen at Naval Station Norfolk as growing concerns mount from authorities and family members, according to the Virginia State Police, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Angelina Petra Resendiz, described as a white/Hispanic female with black hair and brown eyes, stands 5 feet tall and weighs 110 pounds, according to the Virginia State Police.

She was last seen on May 29 at around 10 a.m. at her barracks in Miller Hall at Naval Station Norfolk, the Virginia State Police said in Facebook post Tuesday.

Authorities have not released a description of the clothing she was wearing at the time and report that she has no known vehicle.

On June 3, state police issued a Critically Missing Adult Alert on behalf of NCIS, stating that Resendiz’s disappearance poses a credible threat to her health and safety.

The NCIS is leading the investigation and is asking anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact them at (877) 579-3648.

Family members say Resendiz’s disappearance is highly unusual. “She’s very kind. She’s very loving,” said her mother, Esmeralda Castle, who lives in Texas, where Resendiz grew up, WCEV reported.

Castle described her daughter as a fun and dedicated person who is committed to her job as a Navy culinary specialist. “Her and my sister have a 400-day streak on Snapchat. Every single day she talks to somebody. She talks to family, or she will talk to a friend,” Castle said.

Castle became alarmed when she did not hear from her daughter and learned from friends that Resendiz had missed work. “She just stopped existing Thursday. She’s spent no money, made no calls. She just stopped. She disappeared,” Castle said.

She added, “It’s very hard to tell people that she’s missing,” and reiterated that her daughter does not drive and does not have a vehicle. “This isn’t like Angie. I just want to find her,” she said.

The NCIS has not disclosed the specific reason for determining that Resendiz may be endangered, but has said that her disappearance presents a credible threat to her health and safety, according to a Wednesday Facebook post by the National Center for Missing and Endangered.

NCIS confirmed to NTD that it “is conducting an investigation to locate Seaman Angelina Petra Resendiz, who has not been seen or been in contact with her friends or family since May 29. She was last seen on May 29 in her barracks at Miller Hall aboard Naval Station Norfolk. Out of respect for the investigative process, NCIS will not comment further while the investigation remains ongoing. Please refer any personnel-related queries to Commander Naval Surface Force Atlantic.

“NCIS urges anyone with information regarding her whereabouts to contact NCIS at 877-579-3648 or using the NCIS Tips app. Tips may be reported anonymously. A physical description of Resendiz may be found here.”
Authorities also urge anyone with information to contact the Naval Criminal Investigative Service at (877) 579-3648. Complete information is available at the Virginia State Police Active Alerts page.
