Over the 2010s and 2020s, Prime Video has built up its status as one of the top streamers in entertainment, competing with services like Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max, and more. Originally launched in 2006 under the name of Amazon Unbox before it was rebranded to Amazon Prime Video in 2011 and Prime Video in 2018, the company began producing original content in 2013; today, some of those shows have become the most highly-regarded and praised programs in the entertainment sphere.
As is the case with every streaming service, Prime Video gives viewers different levels (or tiers) for payment options, which include or take away advertisements and provides different levels of resolution for viewing. For this service specifically, Amazon also provides benefits elsewhere, such as discounts and shorter timeframes on deliveries, access to Amazon Music, and free Grubhub+. Now, thanks to a new update that just took hold, things are better than ever for Prime Video subscribers.
Originally announced in mid-March, Prime Video has replaced its cheaper ad-free tier with a more improved option, albeit a little more expensive. This plan was officially unveiled on April 10, and it is now named Prime Video Ultra. This plan is priced at $4.99/month, and Amazon now offers this deal as an annual plan priced at $45.99 per year. This option gives viewers a 23% discount by purchasing the plan on an annual basis rather than paying every month.
Along with providing completely ad-free entertainment, the Ultra Plan includes 4K Ultra High Definition video, which is four times the resolution of classic HD. The sound will also use immersive Dolby Atmos to provide more of a cinematic experience at home.Additionally, as password-sharing is now being watched more tightly by all streamers, Prime Video Ultra will allow plan members to stream concurrently from five devices rather than only three. Viewers will also be able to download up to 100 programs for offline viewing, quadrupling the 25 titles that the service was previously able to allow for downloads.
This development comes at a great time for those looking to dive into Prime Video content. Most recently, the streamer released the first two episodes of The Boys Season 5, which will be the superhero show’s final season. Having already delivered a major death in the first episode, this show will up the ante to levels never seen before on the small screen, setting the stage for what should be a wildly dramatic end for Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, and the rest of the crew.
Elsewhere, Alan Ritchson’s Reacher series is inching closer to its fourth season being released, hoping to continue its run as one of the most popular series on Prime Video. This new season will be based on author Lee Child’s 14th book, Gone Tomorrow, which pulls Reacher into a conspiracy in New York City involving a potential suicide-bomber. Elsewhere in this universe, Maria Sten is also getting her own spin-off series centered around her Neagley, although plot details are not yet known. While these shows are only the cream of the crop of what Prime Video has to offer, this new tier should be a major winner for those hoping to dive into everything this streamer has on its slate.
The Prime Video Ultra plan is now available for $4.99/month or $45.99/year.
