The Chosen, the ongoing show about the life of Jesus of Nazareth (Jonathan Roumie), will officially premiere its sixth season on Prime Video on Sunday, November 15, 2026, per Variety. The first three episodes will drop all at once. After that, they’ll come out one at a time through January 6. The sixth season finale will run in movie theaters in the spring.
Before this, every season of The Chosen has had eight episodes. Season 6 won’t have quite as many, but that season finale will be feature-length to make up for it.
The fifth season of The Chosen ended with Judas Iscariot (Luke Dimyan) betraying Jesus. The sixth season will cover the day of his crucifixion. “The hour has come. Before the sun sets, Jesus of Nazareth will be dead,” reads the official synopsis. “Season Six captures the historic events of Jesus’ final day through the lives of those who love Him—and those who condemn Him. Pharisees call it justice. Romans call it peace. Followers call it murder. But in the face of loneliness and death, Jesus stands resolute in his plan that has always led to one place: the cross. ‘The Chosen’ Season Six reveals how Jesus’ final hours changed the world forever.”
The Chosen is set to run for seven seasons, with the Season 7 premiere also debuting in movie theaters, this time in 2028. If Season 6 ends with Jesus’ death, one assumes that the seventh and final season will cover his resurrection, as the show continues to walk through the New Testament of the Bible.
The Chosen has had an interesting history. The first season was crowd-funded, and debuted on the faith-based streaming service VidAngel in 2019. By 2021, it was also available on more mainstream services like Prime Video and Peacock. The third season aired linearly on The CW while the entirety of the fourth was shown in movie theaters, where it found a lot of success. The theatrical releases of seasons 3 through 5 have made over $140 million worldwide in 55 territories.
Starting from season 5 onward, The Chosen has had a bit more of a predictable relationship with Amazon MGM Studios. Episodes of Season 5 were exclusively available to watch on Prime Video for a period of 90 days, and Season 6 will also call the streaming service home. Prime Video also has the right to air several spin-off shows, including the animated series The Chosen Adventures, which dropped its first season last October; and an upcoming reality series The Chosen In The Wild With Bear Grylls.
But there’s still several months to go before the main show returns. In addition to Roumie and Dimyan, The Chosen also stars Shahar Isaac (Peter), Paras Patel (Matthew), Elizabeth Tabish (Mary Magdalene), Noah James (Andrew), George H. Xanthis (John), Abe Bueno-Jallad (Big James), Vanessa Benavente (Mother Mary), Richard Fancy (Caiaphas), Paul Ben-Victor (King Herod), and Andrew James Allen (Pontius Pilate).
