Royal Mail has confirmed that households across dozens of UK postcode areas could face disruption to their deliveries. The postal service has issued its latest service update for Thursday, September 3, with 28 delivery offices currently among those most affected by local problems.
Together, the offices cover 79 postcode districts across different parts of the UK. Royal Mail said deliveries and collections will still take place across the country today, with the company aiming to deliver to every address where it has mail. However, it warned this may temporarily not be possible in a small number of areas.
Problems can be caused by issues including high levels of staff sickness, resourcing shortages and other local factors.
Where this happens, Royal Mail said it will rotate deliveries in an attempt to reduce the length of delays faced by individual households.
The company said: “We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.”
There have also been some separate problems moving mail through Royal Mail’s network.
A vehicle arrived late at its North West Hub yesterday morning and missed connections with scheduled outbound services.
As a result, some mail which had been due to arrive yesterday in parts of the CA, DG, CH, LL and SY postcode areas may arrive later than expected.
There was better news for Royal Mail’s air network, with services operating to schedule over the previous 24 hours.
Birmingham Mail Centre also reported that not all mail was processed and sent out on schedule.
This affected some mail posted yesterday in the B, HR and WR postcode areas which was due for delivery elsewhere in the UK today.
