The Prince and Princess of Wales enjoyed a ‘private date night’ at the Royal Variety Show.
Kate Middleton joined Prince William at the cherished Royal event held at London’s Royal Albert Hall, where she dazzled in a figure-hugging dark green velvet gown with an off-the-shoulder detail. Her look was completed with her signature loose curls and diamond drop earrings, complementing William’s smart black velvet suit.
This is the sixth time the Royal couple have attended the show, and notably, the first since Kate’s recovery from cancer in 2024. The pair seemed to be in high spirits, sharing ‘flirty’ exchanges as they graced the red carpet and took their seats in the Royal box to enjoy the performance.
Body language expert Judi James decoded the gestures and glances shared between the Prince and Princess of Wales.
James elaborated, “The royals haven’t always appeared totally keen to sit through the long hours of the Royal Variety show but William and Kate bring a new keenness and energy to the night, turning it into their own private date night as well as a charitable event.”
‘Flirtiest best’
“Kate and William are often at their flirtiest best when they are both fully glammed up for a red-carpet appearance and while Kate looks radiant here, William’s body language appears slightly bashful as he walks beside her.
“His hands hang slightly in front of his torso and his puckered smile suggests he’s slightly overwhelmed by the grinning glances Kate throws at him.”
She added: “Kate looks confident here, walking ahead to greet the hosts but with one eyebrow raised in that flirty signal as she looks across to William and he responds with a hand on her back in a gesture of steering and protection.”
King forced to pull out
The Royal Variety Performance, now in its remarkable 113th year, initially occurred in 1912, with King George V and Queen Mary present.
Annually, members of the Royal family grace the occasion, and this year, William and Kate will be in attendance, having previously appeared together at the performance in 2023.
The previous year, King Charles attended the Royal Variety Performance solo as Queen Camilla was forced to pull out owing to a chest infection that subsequently developed into viral pneumonia.
