The box office charts for the week of Apr. 17-19, 2026 have been unveiled, confirming a familiar face at the top of the rankings. This top performer, once again, is Universal’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which has topped the box office in its first three weeks on the big screen. With another $35 million haul domestically, it has now grossed nearly $750 million worldwide, which already makes it the highest-grossing movie of 2026 in the world.
Coming in the runner-up position is another 2026 heavy-hitter, Project Hail Mary, which brings Andy Weir’s famous novel to life behind star Ryan Gosling and directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Five weeks into its theatrical run, it pulled in another $20 million domestically to bring its total to just over $570 million worldwide. As of writing, it ranks as the third-highest-grossing movie of the year, only behind The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Pegasus 3.
The top three on the list rounds out with a newcomer to the party, Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, a reimagining of the stories from Brendan Fraser’s franchise which stars Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, and May Calamawy. The supernatural horror movie raked in a $13.5 million domestic opening and just over $34 million worldwide.
Zendaya and Robert Pattinson’s romcom/psychological thriller movie, The Drama, comes in behind that trio by earning another nearly $5 million in its third week, pushing its overall haul to just over $80 million worldwide. A much calmer romcom, You, Me & Tuscany, directed by Kat Coiro and starring Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page, ranks fifth for the week with just under $4 million domestically.

Looking ahead to the weekend starting on Apr. 24, the most notable contender for the top box office spot for the next week is Antoine Fuqua’s Michael, the biopic on the late Michael Jackson, which stars Jackson’s real-life nephew, Jaafar Jackson. Having already garnered great reviews from critics, this recreation of the Grammy-winning artist’s life is expected to have viewers tapping their toes and singing along from start to finish. Other contenders for big weekends at the box office include Anne Hathaway’s Mother Mary, Anthony Mackie’s Desert Warrior, and Jason Segel and Samara Weaving’s Over Your Dead Body.
