A top Ukrainian general has confirmed the attack on the facility in Cheboksary and given new details.
Major General Andrii Hnatov, Kyiv’s Chief of the General Staff, said the site was being used to manufacture antennas for Shahed kamikaze drones which have been used extensively against Ukraine.
In a post on social media, he said: “On the night of June 9, units of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in cooperation with other components of the Defense Forces, struck the facilities of JSC “VNIIR-Progress” LLC “ABS Electro”, located in the city of Cheboksary on the territory of the Chuvash Republic, Russia.
“A military-industrial complex enterprise that ensures the production of adaptive Comet antennas, which are used in particular in Shahed strike UAVs, unified planning and correction modules (UMPK) for guided aerial bombs (CAB), and other high-precision weapons.
“The site was confirmed to have been hit by at least two UAVs and a subsequent large-scale fire.”
He added the impact of the strikes are “being clarified”.
