
The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) has officially launched the Visit Maldives Hackathon 2025, a technology-driven initiative aimed at tackling key challenges in the Maldivian tourism industry. The event, launched on February 27, 2025, at the Dhiraagu Head Office, is open for both local and international participants aged 18 and above.
The hackathon is a 48-hour competition designed to develop innovative and sustainable solutions that enhance tourism experiences and operational efficiency. The initiative aligns with Visit Maldives’ commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to boost sustainability in the tourism sector. The event is organized in collaboration with Dhiraagu, SparkHub LLP, PSM, BCC, MOTE, and NCIT.
Registration and Key Event Dates
The Visit Maldives Hackathon 2025 is now open for registration, with the following timeline:
Information sessions: March 13, March 19, and April 7, 2025.
Proposal submission deadline: April 11, 2025.
Proposal evaluations: April 12, 2025.
Final participant selection announcement: April 13, 2025.
Hackathon event dates: April 18-20, 2025.

Speaking at the official launch ceremony, Honourable Minister of Tourism and Environment, Thoriq Ibrahim, emphasized the long-term impact of the hackathon: “The ideas developed here will not remain inside these walls. The innovations you create can shape the way we welcome guests, the way we manage our industry, and how we preserve our natural environment while enhancing visitor experiences.”
Highlighting the government’s commitment to fostering digital transformation in tourism, MMPRC CEO & MD Ibrahim Shiuree added:
