Wednesday horse racing tips

  • SALISBURY
    2.50: Assiri Heights 10/11*
  • CATTERICK
    4.30: Bosphorus Rose 1/1*
  • DONCASTER
    5.15: Flash Of Fire 4/5*
  • *Treble 11/2 (1pt)

Assiri Heights

Most having their debut in this race, Bone Marra being one of the exceptions yet has drifted in the betting all morning already.

Rated 81 and with that 7lb penalty for his debut win he’ll have to make sure he beats a few of these with potentially unexposed geldings and colts.

One reason for the drift is that Assiri Heights by Frankel is making his debut for Andrew Balding for Juddmonte, under William Buick too.

That seems a recipe for success and this horse fetched as much as 700,000gns as a yearling.

His dam, Archer’s Dream, also sets a promising standard with her listed win as a three-year-old, also over 6f.

Bosphorus Rose

Struggling to see a way into this for three-year-old Me And Bobby McGee despite carrying the bottom weight.

He also won last time out to break his maiden tag but with a 6lb rise he will be tested on just how good that win was.

I’m not too convinced given his previous odds and the depth of that handicap, so I’m opting to look more at the mare Afloat and the filly Bosphorus Rose.

Afloat wasn’t far off at this mark at Leicester on seasonal debut and then won by a neck at Haydock next time out.

She’s not been seen to great effect since though and the step back up to the 1m4f does have potential.

However, another three-year-old Bosphorus Rose looks to have great form this season and could be thriving over this quick move to take her further and further in trip.

Winning nicely at Bath, before winning at Epsom on her first start over 1m4f, last time out – she’s certainly got more to offer this time.

Flash Of Fire

It’s always worth noting when Oisin Murphy isn’t on board for an Andrew Balding-trained horse when a prominent horse such as the one tipped above is racing.

That’s because the jockey has four rides at Doncaster tonight including this debutant for Qatar Racing, trained by James Ferguson.

Ferguson has seen just 9% of his two-year-olds win on turf in the last five seasons a significantly lower strike-rate compared to the all-weather or other ages.

But that’s to be expected with trainers putting out horses for their debuts at this age and further exploring what suits them as they progress.

This filly is also out of a Group 3 winner and has been hammered in the odds to become an odds-on favourite for this.
