A 33-year-old woman was charged this week in the death of a 28-year-old UberEats driver who was carjacked as he delivered food to a Loretto Hospital doctor in the Austin community of Chicago.
“She was identified as an offender who, approximately 10 hours earlier, participated in taking a vehicle from a 28-year-old male victim in the 5500 block of W. Flournoy St. in the 15th District,” authorities said. “The victim was fatally struck by the vehicle as the offender fled.”
The Feb. 23 carjacking and homicide began when the decedent parked his light blue Dodge Caravan and left it idling on the street in front of the hospital entrance while he delivered the meal.
Law enforcement said the decedent was unaware that Perry had opened the driver’s door and sat in the driver’s seat.
Two other individuals who were with Perry also entered the van on the passenger side.
Sandra Guerrero identified the decedent as her boyfriend Daniel Figueroa, who had finished a shift at Amazon and was working extra hours for Uber Eats, but never made it home.
A confession obtained by the Cook County State’s Attorney states that as Perry sped off in the stolen vehicle, Figueroa ran towards his car and grabbed the door handle.
When the physician who was waiting for the food delivery went outside, he found the UberEats driver lying in a pool of blood.
After 911 was called, police and paramedics responded, and Figueroa was pronounced deceased a short time later.
“The Defendant admitted to taking the Victim’s van at the hospital and admitted to seeing the Victim running towards the vehicle and taking off,” the confession noted. “She also identified herself in a still photo from the surveillance video outside the hospital from the moment before she entered the van and admitted that the clothes she had on when arrested were the same clothes she had on when the homicide happened.”

The Cook County State’s Attorney added that Perry made her first appearance in court this week on Feb. 25 where she was ordered detained.
Perry’s next court date is March 18.
An Uber spokesperson expressed condolences and vowed to help the police.
“We’re incredibly saddened by this tragic loss, and our thoughts are with the family and loved ones as they navigate this unimaginably difficult time,” the Uber spokesperson told NTD in an email. “We’ve reached out to police and will assist them however we can.”
