The majority of Czech citizens have recently decided to spend their autumn holidays in-country, with the latest survey by the Institute of Tourism suggesting that South Bohemia and South Moravia have emerged as the most popular regional destinations, attracting 15% and 11% of respondents respectively. Though the proportion of Czechs traveling abroad has increased compared to last year, there is still no doubt regarding the zeal with which domestic travel is embraced by the citizens.
This increased interest in domestic travel, as well as the growing expenditure on travel, is evident in the estimated expense for a six day autumn holiday which stands at CZK 7,962 per person. As for accommodation, the ‘guesthouse’ option is rated the highest, with 50% of respondents indicating a preference for this type of accommodation. While the more expensive hotels, which also offer a higher level of service and amenities, are still quite popular, guest houses are the most widely accepted forms of accommodation for those wishing to gather local culture and comfort.An Increasing Interest in Sustainable Travel Options
Among the most noticeable changes in travelling behaviours in the Czech Republic is the increasing adoption of eco-friendly alternatives in travel and tourism. More and more travelers are choosing to stay in certified eco-friendly hotels. This is in line with the global shift toward responsible travel and tourism. More and more Czechs are concerned about their travel-related environmental footprint, and this is driving the increased demand for options to travel sustainably. It is reported that about 72% of people intend to travel around the most picturesque parts of the country by foot. Other ways of walking include, of course, and in order of descending popularity, light walking by 58%, cycling by 29%, and some people enjoy visiting water-related attractions by 21% as some of the most popular activities.
Czechia, with its national parks and mu, has a wealth of natural beauty that is practically begging to be explored. The vast dyas of hiking and biking, and dose of nature that all but means a national parks means that both first timers and veterans will have no problem finding something. Along with outdoor activities, cultural tourism also remains a high priority, with historical sites, museums, and family-friendly attractions all rewarding to be explored.
Travel spending has seen a rise, with Czechs increasing their budgets for Autumn holidays of this year compared to the last. According to data of the average traveler, they expect to increase their spending by 180 czks on average this year and almost 50% is allocated to accommodation. Another secondary, yet important, item of expenditure is on dining out with almost 19% of the total allocated for restaurants. The division of total expenses on activities and sightseeing is 11% while the rest is on transport and shopping.
Czechia is a country that has made travel budgets more flexible, with increasing covid restrictions allowing for more mobility to enjoy wider spending on a variety of traveling spend. This has shown a positive increase in the spending that is more available to travelers to pursue their passion of eating, cultural activities and comfortable support other places. This is helpful in increasing the tourism value of Czechia on the spending experience.

While domestic travel is still the most prominent, the latest research indicates that forty-four percent of Czechs intend to travel abroad this autumn, which is a slight increase from the last year. Some still do appreciate travelling abroad, but the increase in domestic tourism speaks volumes about the appreciation of the country’s geography, from the woods in South Bohemia to the cultural South of Moravia.
