‘Jack Ryan’s New Movie Sets Up a Dominant Comeback Year Amidst ‘Reacher’ Season 4’s Delays

Amazon has two Jacks, and right now, only one of them is showing up when it counts. Prime Video just dropped the first teaser for Jack Ryan: Ghost War, and the timing couldn’t be more perfect. While one action hero sits stuck in post-production somewhere, John Krasinski’s CIA operative just reminded everyone why he’s been the real MVP all along.

The trailer wastes zero time getting you hyped. Wendell Pierce’s Greer nearly gets blown up by a radicalized military group, and naturally, he goes straight to Jack for help. Except Jack’s been out of the game (as per Season 4’s ending). He’s living his life with Cathy, and he’s done with all this. “Whatever it is, I’m not doing it,” he tells Greer. Then comes the explosions, the chaos, the high-speed chases, and yeah… Jack’s absolutely doing it. Check out the trailer below.

The First Full ‘Jack Ryan’ Movie in 24 Years Arrives in Two Months

This is the first real Jack Ryan movie since 2002’s The Sum of All Fears (yes, we’re pretending that 2014 Chris Pine thing didn’t happen). Jack Ryan: Ghost War hits Prime Video globally on May 20, 2026, and the trailer confirms it’s going R-rated, which means things are about to get messy.

Krasinski returns alongside Wendell Pierce as James Greer and Michael Kelly as Mike November. New additions include Sienna Miller in a mystery role, plus Betty Gabriel, Max Beesley, Douglas Hodge, and JJ Feild. Andrew Bernstein, who directed Season 2’s killer finale, “Strongman,” is behind the camera with a script from Aaron Rabin and Krasinski.

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan ran for four seasons and ended on a satisfying note. Jack exposed the corruption in the CIA, finally got back together with Cathy, and walked away. Three years later, Greer pulls him back in, and the Ryan-Greer dynamic that made the show work is front and center in this teaser. Their back-and-forth, the trust they’ve built, the way Greer knows exactly how to get Jack to say yes even when he means no, it’s all there.

The movie plays out in real time as Jack teams up with Mike November and Greer to hunt down an enemy who knows their every move. The teaser shows Jack tracking the group that tried to kill Greer, and it looks intense. Sienna Miller pops up briefly, but her role’s still under wraps. What matters is that this feels like the show at its best, just condensed into 105 minutes of nonstop action movie fun.

Where’s ‘Reacher’ Season 4 When You Need It?

Meanwhile, Reacher fans are still in the dark. Season 4 wrapped filming back in November 2025, and Alan Ritchson confirmed earlier this month that it’ll drop sometime in 2026. But “sometime in 2026” isn’t a release date. We’re already halfway through March, and there’s no trailer, no poster, no countdown, nothing.

Okay, so Reacher Season 3 was great. Nobody’s questioning the show’s quality. But the wait between seasons keeps getting longer. Seasons 1 and 2 had a nearly two-year gap because of the strikes, and Season 3 came just over a year after Season 2, which felt like progress. Then the Neagley spin-off wrapped in June 2025, months before Season 4 finished filming, and now, everyone’s playing the waiting game again.

Die-hard Reacher fans will absolutely stick around because Ritchson’s version of the character is perfect, and the show’s earned that loyalty. But while Reacher’s stuck in post-production purgatory, somewhere getting color-corrected or sound-mixed or whatever, Jack Ryan just showed up with a trailer, a release date two months out, and all the excitement in the world. Amazon is clearly invested in both franchises, but only one of them is delivering right now, and the longer it takes, the more Jack Ryan starts looking like the franchise Amazon can actually rely on to show up when it matters.
