Drivers on a busy stretch of the M6 are facing traffic chaos this evening after a broken-down HGV suffered a “substantial” fuel spillage. The lanes (of three) are closed southbound near Preston within J31.
There are currently severe 60-minute delays and seven miles of congestion on approach. The southbound entry slip road is also closed. National Highways North West wrote on X: “2 lanes (of 3) are closed on #M6 southbound near #Preston within J31 due to a broken down HGV which has suffered a substantial fuel spillage. The southbound entry slip road remains closed. Crews remain on scene. Delays of 60 mins and 7 miles of congestion on the approach.”
