I’m back in the hot seat after two weeks working as an announcer at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. Inside the SEC at the bowls and para bowls, Team England had another incredible medal haul, winning three golds, two silvers and a bronze.
It was an amazing experience and it was great to see the Games were so well attended by members of the Royal Family. We had several visitors to the bowls, with the Duke of Edinburgh clearly loving it so much he popped in twice!
It was great to see our little-known sport get the attention of senior royals, and due to the cut-price Games only hosting 10 events, it also allowed for greater prominence in the press. However, my last day in the job on August 1, saw the ultimate collision of my day job and my hobby.
Having started work at 6am, introducing the athletes and chatting with the players, I rushed over to the Hydro for the afternoon as five special royal visitors were on their way – the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children.
