Costco Launches Same-Day DoorDash Delivery Across US Warehouses

Costco members nationwide can now order thousands of warehouse products for same-day delivery through DoorDash, according to a joint announcement Thursday from Costco Wholesale Corp. and DoorDash.

The companies said customers can use the DoorDash app to buy groceries, pantry goods, household supplies, electronics, seasonal merchandise and Kirkland Signature products from Costco warehouses across the United States. The selection includes more than 4,000 items.

To place an order, shoppers search for Costco in the DoorDash app, choose a local warehouse, and link an active Costco membership when prompted. People without memberships can follow a link to Costco.com, purchase one, and then return to DoorDash to connect the new account.

The launch expands a partnership already operating in Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Iceland and Puerto Rico. The companies said Costco had ranked among the retailers most frequently searched for by DoorDash customers despite not previously being available on the U.S. marketplace.

“Costco members have been asking for Costco on DoorDash, and today we’re delivering,” Mike Goldblatt, DoorDash’s vice president of enterprise partnerships, said in the release. “By pairing Costco’s quality, value and selection with DoorDash’s reach and local delivery network, we’re giving members more flexibility in how they shop. The U.S. launch also marks the next chapter in a global partnership already serving Costco members around the world.”

With the addition of Costco, DoorDash now works with eight of North America’s 10 largest food retailers, the companies said, citing Progressive Grocer’s PG 100 ranking.

The announcement came less than two weeks after Costco ended Costco Next, an online marketplace that connected members to discounted products sold by outside brands.

Under Costco Next, members selected offers on Costco’s website before being redirected to participating vendors’ storefronts to complete purchases. Participating companies included Anker Electronics, Priority Bicycles, Viking Culinary, Caraway, Fit Crunch, Jupiter Bike, Jacuzzi, and Paragon Outdoor.

Costco did not provide customers advance notice before ending the platform. The former Costco Next webpage directed shoppers to contact individual vendors about returns, warranties, and other eligible matters.

Nino Garcia, a Costco assistant general merchandise manager who oversaw Costco Next, previously said the idea originated in 2016 but took several years to become a functioning program, according to an article on Costco’s website.

“There was a real learning curve as we developed the program, and there were a lot of refinements, from site improvements and product selection, to ensuring that every supplier understood the concept,” Garcia said. “In the end, Costco’s goal will always be the same: offering our members quality goods at a great value.”
