US President Donald Trump has announced the “immediate declassification and release of critical intelligence” relating to elections.
During his primetime speech on Thursday, July 16, Trump said the intelligence reveals “shocking vulnerabilities” in US election infrastructure and accused China of illicitly accessing information on US voters.
“That information includes names, addresses, phone numbers, political party preferences, and other sensitive data that would be needed to register to vote and engage in other nefarious activities. Which is exactly what was happening,” Trump said.
His accusations were met with harsh responses from democrats.
Governor of California Gavin Newsom called the speech the “ramblings of a mad king”.
Newsom, in a post on X, claimed that Trump is “already laying the groundwork to rig this election and convince YOU not to trust the results if they don’t go his way.”
