Friday horse racing tips
- NEWMARKET
1.15: Never Let Go 7/1 (1pt)
1.50: Spirited Style 2/1 (1pt)
2.25: Zanthos 3/1 (1pt)
3.00: Opera Ballo 4/5 (2pts)
Never Let Go
This move back to listed company is very appealing to side with Elwateen.
The filly was a close fourth in Group 1 company in the 1000 Guineas here in May, before being seen twice more in Group 1 fillies contests, where she didn’t seem to handle the level.
She’s had a good three months off now and should return well-in here, boosted by trainer and jockey form.
However, Kieran Shoemark has been having a great time of things at Newmarket this season and is on board the very consistent filly Never Let Go who should go close, making her a great each-way play.
Spirited Style
Spirited Style easily and gamely saw out the Ric And Mary Hambro Aphrodite listed stakes here in July and can be forgiven for only placing tenth in the German Oaks last month.
She won so well here against older opposition it only boosted her chances for a big prize elsewhere, hence her just 31/10 price at Dusseldorf.
But it’s still potentially overlooked that she only carried 8-9 at Newmarket to win against those older rivals which was nearly a stone in hand.
She’s got the backing of William Buick and has also beaten Silent Love and Understudy before and shouldn’t be ignored back on good ground.
Zanthos
Oisin Murphy had just one ride on September 9th at Leicester with Zanthos who was readily beaten by Touleen, who scooted away after quickening really well.
Zanthos wasn’t far off who you could tell was determined to keep going to follow in that horse but just missed the turn of speed.
The Simon & Ed Crisford horse was pulling really hard though and if she settles better and is able to go with Touleen better, she should be right up there to challenge.
Let’s not forget she was the odds-on favourite to beat Touleen that day and didn’t run as well as expected, so has the ability to turn things around.
Afterall these two-year-olds are still learning and don’t always run consistently despite holding that ability.
Opera Ballo
Tough to steer clear of some of the big favourites in this meeting at Newmarket this week.
The opening day’s (Thursday) was an exception with a few two-year-old contests.
But three-year-olds can be a little bit easier to predict.
And when they’re as good as Opera Ballo ridden by William Buick and trained by Charlie Appleby who still have the most wins here in the last five years and current season with an incredible strike-rate sometimes you have to go with the shortest price.
