Although it has been eight years since the last film was released, Deadline has exclusively reported that a third Sicario film is in the works. The report also came with the news that the cast of the original Sicario film, released in 2015, is also returning for the third installment: Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, and Josh Brolin will all be reprising their roles. The 2018 sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, featured Brolin and Del Toro but did not have Emily Blunt’s character. While Taylor Sheridan wrote both films and Stefano Sollima directed Day of the Soldado, Sicario 3 also has an entirely new creative team: Padraic McKinley, who recently directed the Ethan Hawke thriller The Weight, will be directing a script written by Steven Knight, who also wrote the script for the upcoming James Bond film.
