Former Man of Steel Henry Cavill is now man in a kilt as he transforms into a 16th-century Scottish warrior in new images from the long-awaited Highlander reboot. After waiting so, so many years that it felt like only the immortals would get to see it, Cavill is finally filming the long-awaited reboot of the beloved action fantasy franchise, with the latest images offering our first look at the one-time Witcher once again with long hair as he rides into battle while filming at Eilean Donan Castle in Scotland.
John Wick director Chad Stahelski takes the helm of the Highlander franchise, which will reintroduce audiences to this action fantasy tale of an immortal warrior who must do battle with fellow immortals across time. As now confirmed by these new images (which you can check out below courtesy of @CavillSupport), the new Highlander will follow a similar path to the 1986 original, centering on warrior Connor MacLeod, who, after dying on the battlefield centuries ago, discovers he’s a member of a secret group of immortals. Living quietly in the modern world, haunted by loss and the endless cycle of violence among his kind, MacLeod is drawn out of the shadows by the return of the ruthless immortal Kurgan.
These newly revealed images don Henry Cavill in traditional Highland dress, with the actor also sporting long hair reminiscent of his time as Geralt in Netflix’s The Witcher series. The footage, meanwhile, shows what appears to be a flaming torch-wielding army riding into battle. A battle that will change Connor MacLeod’s unending life forever. This look behind the scenes also offers our first look at Scottish actor and Grey’s Anatomy star Kevin McKidd and Scottish WWE star Drew McIntyre, both of whom will go to war alongside Cavill in what’s sure to be an epic action sequence, while Guardians of the Galaxy star Karen Gillan can be glimpsed in the background.
Directed by John Wick’s Chad Stahelski, and written by Kerry Williamson and Mike Finch, Highlander has amassed an all-star cast alongside Henry Cavill. The former Superman will reunite with his Man of Steel co-star Russell Crowe, who it is now confirmed will play the mentor character portrayed in the original by Sean Connery, with the rest of the cast including MCU alumni Karen Gillan and Djimon Hounsou, as well as Marisa Abela (Industry), Max Zhang (Blades of the Guardians), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Jeremy Irons, and MCU and Dune actor Dave Bautista, who will play the main villain of the piece, The Kurgan.
Highlander does not yet have a release date but will be released by Amazon MGM Studios.
