Hugh Jackman Doesn’t Feel Like It’s ‘the End’ for Wolverine

Hugh Jackman has played Wolverine to perfection for more than 25 years. First bringing the gruff, fan-favorite mutant to life in X-Men (2000), he’s returned time and time again — even after his character faced literal death in Logan. Most recently, Jackman teamed up with Ryan Reynolds for Deadpool & Wolverine, a box-office success that proved to be just as emotionally charged as it was action-packed.

During a sit-down with Variety, Jackman, 57, revealed that despite considering retiring the character in the past, it just “doesn’t feel like the end” for Wolverine yet.

“It really felt like the end after ‘Logan.’ Actually, I needed to claim it as the end, because I really believed in some things that I wanted that movie to be, and I had to fight for them. I had to say, ‘This is the last time I’m doing it.’ Then when I saw ‘Deadpool,’ I was like, ‘Oh. I see ‘48 Hrs.’ I see Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte.’ But I would shove it down. ‘I’ve told everyone that I’m done. I’m not one of those guys.’ Then I went, ‘You know what? I change my mind. It’s not that big of a deal. I’m not even gonna say I’m sorry.’ And it was so awesome.”

Hugh Jackman Teases Potential Wolverine Return in the MCU

As Marvel fans eagerly await the release of Avengers: Doomsday in late 2026, rumors swirl that Jackman may have a cameo in it as Wolverine.

“Maybe. I’m never saying ‘never’ ever again!” he teased during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show. “I have done ten films now, so I think they have enough for an AI version of me.”

Back in May, he also addressed the rumors while on The View, admitting that he couldn’t “say much” one way or the other at the time.

“I really have nothing to add,” he continued, “and if I did, I would find a really cool way to not say it, but I actually have nothing to add.”

While the Les Misérables actor played coy about potentially making an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday, other X-Men stars have already been confirmed, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, and Alan Cumming. Channing Tatum is also set to return as Gambit after his long-awaited debut in the role in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Earlier this year, Cumming additionally hinted at the possibility of Halle Berry coming back as Storm in the highly-anticipated MCU flick.

“Well… maybe she does,” he quipped to Entertainment Tonight when asked if she would be in the movie. “But honestly, I’m the last person to ask.”

Aside from X-Men alums, Fantastic Four: First Steps stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are also expected to join the Avengers for the very first time, but details of the plot and what role they will play in it have been kept largely under wraps.
