Monday horse racing tips

  • HAMILTON
    4.10: Eternal Sunshine 7/2 (1pt)
  • NEWTON ABBOT
    1.56: Centara 11/10 (1pt)
    3.06: John Barbour 6/5 (2pts)
    4.50: Coconut Twist 4/1 (1pt)

Eternal Sunshine

Eternal Sunshine was tipped ten days ago to win at Ayr in a competitive Class 2 handicap where she placed a respectable third of 25 runners, albeit as the 3/1 favourite.

Upped 6lb compared to that run but she’s still yet to reach her full potential by the looks of things.

The five-year-old mare has gradually got to this mark with regular wins and even won here last year.

Back down to 5f for the first time since August but did win over 51/2f earlier this month when winning amongst 21 runners.

She’s fared incredibly well this season in big field handicaps and more often than not wins or at least goes close with solid placed efforts.

Centara

Centara has won here over course and distance three of the last four runs, where he also placed second to Breaking Cover last time out.

That run may well have come too soon (just nine days after previous) so warrants backing here even against two rivals with a big weight and rating difference.

Breaking Cover is a big price for those re-backing and even won next time out at Worcester, but there’s a shift in weight too to suggest the favourite can reverse the form.

John Barbour

Tipped this horse for a hopeful return at Warwick last week but was a non-runner for ‘unsuitable ground’.

Returns from a break with his last run coming in April in a tough novices’ handicap.

Went off for a wind op this summer which suggests there may have been something amiss that day rather than the standard being too high.

Down 1lb from that run and could be back to reaffirm his potential seen last season.

Coconut Twist

Favourite is a little bit short in the odds, despite running respectably in a couple of Class 2 handicaps.

Most of them are stepping back a touch in distance including Despereaux.

Striking A Pose has a much better strike-rate over hurdles compared to chasing and is back from a break but has been fairly inconsistent in his last few runs.

The same can be said for Coconut Twist who went way up in the weights last season when winning three and placing in the top three another three times.

He needs to bounce back from a couple of tougher races but does go well at this distance and ought to go better now back from a break.
