Jason Bourne meets Rocky in a new
Netflix martial arts action thriller series that combines the memory loss mystery of Matt Damon’s amnesiac assassin and the underdog tale of Sylvester Stallone’s sports classic. The streamer has now revealed the first look at the upcoming series, due to debut next month, which finds a mysterious man being saved from the brink of death and finding redemption in the cage.
Titled Wrath, the MMA action thriller series hails from Brazil and brings together a powerhouse cast that includes Vinicius Neri (Lupi) as lead character Mercelo, with Alice Carvalho (Love Is a Knife), Bianca Comparato (3%), Cláudia Raia (BelÃssima), Eduardo Moscovis (The Thorn and the Rose), Fábio Lago (Elite Squad), MC Cabelinho (A Mother’s Love), Babu Santana (City of God), and Zé Wendell (Galera FC) making up the supporting cast.
Wrath tells the story of a young man rescued from the brink of death by an MMA coach. With no memory of his own identity, he is given the name Marcelo and finds a new purpose in the world of MMA. But as he is drawn deeper into this universe, he begins to uncover clues to his past and becomes entangled in a web of crime, secrets and rivalries that reaches far beyond the cage.
Created by Igor Verde and Gustavo Bragança, and directed by José Henrique Fonseca (Good Morning, Verônica), Wrath is executive produced by Eduardo Pop, Fernanda Laignier and José Henrique Fonseca and is a co-production between Zola Filmes and Netflix.
Based on the images and newly revealed plot details, Wrath promises to live up to its short-and-sweet title as it delivers martial arts action against the backdrop of a central mystery regarding who our main character is and, perhaps more importantly, what he’s done to end up at the brink of death with zero memory of his past. And, by the sounds of it, much like Bourne and Christopher Nolan’s Memento before it, Wrath will no doubt relish in slowly allowing us to discover the truth.
Thankfully, we don’t have to wait too long to uncover the mystery and bask in the MMA-based action delights of Wrath as, alongside the new images above and official poster below, Netflix has now confirmed that the series will debut on the streaming platform on July 29, 2026.
