Health concerns about Donald Trump have surged again after a group of medical experts warned that his “dangerous decline” could increase the risk of a nuclear conflict. A panel of thirty medical professionals, including neurologists and psychiatrists, report that they have closely monitored the 79-year-old’s statements and behaviour over the past year.
Sounding the alarm they concluded he should be removed from office “with the greatest urgency” amid increasing global tensions. The professionals believe the US President is “mentally unfit”. “It is our professional opinion that the behaviors of Donald Trump, tragically, are neither momentary lapses nor political theater,” they said in a letter.
Two Democratic senators from Rhode Island submitted the statement signed by the doctors for inclusion in the US Congressional Record.
The statement continued: “It is our professional opinion that they reflect a rapidly worsening, reality-untethered, increasingly dangerous decline.”
They also outlined a number of what they called as serious observable concerns, including a marked decline in cognitive functioning.
The professional says his “disorganized and tangential speech, rambling digressions, factual confusions, unexplained sudden changes of course in strategic matters” highlight these concerns.
The US has an estimated total inventory of approximately 5,042 to 5,177 nuclear warheads which are ready to launch on Trump’s order, the experts warn that one now has the authority to stop him.
They also pointed to what they described as “severely impaired judgment and impulse control”.
Last year Trump insisted he was in perfect mental and physical health, stating that he had undergone a “perfect physical exam” along with a comprehensive cognitive assessment.
He wrote on Truth Social at the time: “There will be a day when I run low on Energy, it happens to everyone, but with a PERFECT PHYSICAL EXAM AND A COMPREHENSIVE COGNITIVE TEST (‘That was aced’) JUST RECENTLY TAKEN, it certainly is not now! GOD BLESS AMERICA & MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”
Over the past year Trump has been accused of rambling during speeches. Earlier this year, the 79-year-old appeared to stumble over his words during a speech at Davos, prompting viewers to suggest there may have been an issue with his voice.
Calling Trump “utterly unhinged” one user accused the president of “spouting untruths”. “Listening to Trump. He sounds ill, slurring, stumbling and stark staring mad. Rambling, incoherent, spouting untruths, and utterly unhinged”, wrote the X user. A second concerned user said “there is something seriously wrong with Trump” adding that he “sounds like he will collapse.”
