Friday horse racing tips
- GOODWOOD
1.20: Zinc White 14/1 each-way (1pt)
1.55: Opera Ballo 11/10 (2pts)
3.05: Frost At Dawn 9/1 each-way (1pt)
3.45: Liberty Lane 3/1 (1pt)
Zinc White
Zinc White might be worth a bit of a punt under Silvestre De Sousa for trainer Ian Williams.
He was disappointing last time out over 2m at Beverley in a three-runner race but could be worth more of a look-in if the rain holds and continues as he seems to prefer some cut in the ground.
But it’s not just that, he does well at these kind of sharp courses, won off 1lb higher at Chester when 33/1, it’s just he can be a bit hit or miss.
He’s gone down 4lb since losing to Aggagio over 2m at Goodwood in June while that horse is up 4lb, so it’s a huge sway in the weights.
Opera Ballo
Some talented horses in this Group 3 Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes but it’s Opera Ballo who looks a cut above the rest.
It’s no surprise this colt by Ghaiyyath the big favourite early on.
At 6/5 he’s worth a solid punt, above 1pt at least, but if there’s a drift on the day I’d be looking at 2pts – William Buick and Charlie Appleby are certainly waiting for a big win here.
Frost At Dawn
Big Mojo could be another popular punt here but has gone winless in three runs now.
He has won here before though which can be crucial form at a track like this.
A move back to 5f from 6f is probably a step in the right direction and he so nearly got ahead to take the Group 1 Dubai July Cup Stakes at Newmarket three weeks ago.
I wouldn’t want to side against him after all of that and is so often up there at the finish, including at these sprint races.
He beat Aesterius over course and distance in the Molecomb Stakes and now sets his sights on this huge Group 2.
Asfoora is a hugely talented sprint mate with 25 runs and as many as ten winners.
She will carry the same weight as the three-year-old and also has consistent form in these types of Group sprints.
Placing just a short head behind Big Evs – stablemate to Big Mojo who is also owned by the same owners RP Racing – in this race last year.
Won two starts later at Morphetville then came back to Britain for Royal Ascot, placing just two lengths off of American Affair.
I think that form shows Frost At Dawn, who’s been knocking on the door of going into higher levels, is due a big win in Group company.
That was a huge improvement in her first group run and was underestimated at 28/1.
Great chance and price each-way regardless for the grey/roan filly.
Liberty Lane
Liberty Lane, Haunted Dream and Godwinson have won at Goodwood before and that seems to be a huge factor this week in coping with the tricky course.
Liberty Lane is the 3/1 favourite at the time of writing for owner Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum has great form over this distance.
Haunted Dream won this last year but he did struggle on return to Britain at Royal Ascot in June.
I can’t see how any others will get through to compete unless they don’t run well, which has been a bit of a theme this week too.
Liberty Lane may be carrying top-weight but he is by far the top horse in this and has proven so, including at this course.
