Thursday horse racing tips

SOUTHWELL

  • 5.45: Spirit Of Jura (1.5pts) 6.45: Fierce (1pt) 8.15: Fantasy Believer (1pt)

Spirit Of Jura 7/2

One of the most appealing of this field as this filly has four wins from just nine races, three of those on the all-weather too which helps a lot.

This filly won here over 1m3f in April then reappeared in August to win again, coping with each rise in the weights.

Just as she did when placing a close third at Newmarket in a Class 3 Handicap fillies race, despite a big 6lb rise.

Back down to 1m4f this time and she could make the most of her stamina here which Charlie Johnston-trained horses can always finish strongly, but this filly can be a pace setter.

Fierce 12/1 each-way

Archie Young claims 5lb on this five-year-old who has solid each-way chances for trainer Paul Midgley.

Course and distance winners are appealing here but there’s only a couple – both of which have some chance, Ormolulu is just too short for value given her form.

Though there’s excuses to be made for being short of room etc, in her last three there’s still a few questions to be answered here at a track she loves.

And True Promise also have something to prove back on the all-weather at an appealing mark now but possibly best watched.

Fierce beat Many A Star last time out at Wolverhampton, making it two wins in three doubling his wins from his career in what’s surely his best form.

His first win came in 2023 being a ten-race maiden and his next victory didn’t come till 2024, so there’s got to be something this trainer and yard are doing right now for the previously trained Gary & Josh Moore horse.

Fantasy Believer

Saffie Osborne rides this Ed Walker-trained eight-year-old who is being well backed for this race.

He’s been running well this season placing third in each start at Newcastle and Chepstow and even placed here over course and distance when 16/1 in November.

His only other start here was also over course and distance last year, under Osborne in this exact race to win off just 3lb lower.

This jockey seems to thrive at getting the opportunity to ride these kind of horses in the Racing League and often finds a way to get the best from the horses.
