Police are responding to a reported shooting at Grand Central Station in New York City. According to the FDNY, two people were taken to hospital in critical condition.
Reports suggest officers shot a man who was allegedly carrying a machete, although the exact weapon has not yet been officially confirmed. One eyewitness who spoke to WPIX said the suspect was ordered to drop the weapon before being shot on the platform. The suspect’s condition has not yet been confirmed. The incident is reported to have happened on the uptown platform for the 4, 5 and 6 subway lines. Video taken by a witness appears to show a large police and emergency response, with part of the station cordoned off. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said at 9.47am local time that trains were bypassing Grand Central-42nd Street because of an NYPD investigation.
