Netflix Crime Thriller With MCU Stars Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal Is Must-See TV

After backlash and poor reception for recent projects, Marvel Studios is no longer pumping out tons of movies and TV shows each year. Kevin Feige and his team have let the foot off the gas a little bit. Consequently, many of the franchise’s stars have gotten ample time to work on alternative projects. Biggest winners? The fans of other genres. Mystery crime thriller, His & Hers, is among the many recent projects starring MCU actors.

His & Hers is a marvelous show, memorable not for the story it tells but how it tells it. It stars Tessa Thompson (better known for playing Valkyrie in the Thor movies) and Jon Bernthal (famous for playing Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher). The series is an adaptation of the 2020 novel of the same name by the British author Alice Feeney, and even though it hasn’t made many headlines in the past few months, it’s something you’ll be glad you found. Better, it only has six episodes, making it a quick and satisfying binge.

‘His & Hers’ Is Ours to Enjoy

Contrary to what the first episode might make you believe, there isn’t so much more in His & Hers than meets the eye. But this is actually a form of commendation towards the show rather than belittlement, since the few unusual twists (especially the one in the finale) are wonderful… and enough. There is no pretension here. Just pure entertainment. Perhaps this is showrunner William Oldroyd’s best work, in which the mystery crime thriller cocktail is elevated into a level that can be argued out in prestige tones rather than popcorn fare.

At the center of the tale is Anna (Thompson), a former news anchor who has just returned to her hometown of Dahlonega, Georgia, to report on a murder. As her mind turns into a shovel, and she digs deeper, she finds herself clashing with Detective Jack Harper (Bernthal), her estranged husband, who has been given the task of figuring out this whole whodunit and howdunnit mess. Soon, both parties begin to suspect each other of the murder. Are they right in doing so, or is hate… a strong emotion at all times… just pointing them in the wrong direction?

It’s hard not to like the performances of the two leads. So good are they that you’ll hate Marvel for making you think… even for a moment… that the two actors can only be masters of the green screen. They fully inhabit characters written in a manner intended to push viewers this way and that way between adoration, suspicion, and abhorrence, but it’s only acting, and you can sense that Thompson and Bernthal are relishing every moment. Not to take anything away from co-stars like Pablo Schreiber and Marin Ireland, but whenever the MCU stars step away from the screen, something substantial leaves them. It’s okay to watch His & Hers just for this duo.

Will There Be a Second Season?

Will His & Hers continue? The show was originally produced and marketed as a Netflix limited series, and given how beautifully the story ended, you’d totally be justified in moving on once you are done. However, many miniseries have been turned into multi-year projects in the past few years. There’s a need for more and more content in the current streaming era, so a well-performing miniseries is always likely to be expanded.

His & Hers might not have made many headlines, but it sits comfortably in the “well-performing show” category. Netflix Life reveals that in April 2026, the mystery crime thriller quietly broke into Netflix’s Top 10 Most Popular Shows of All Time leaderboard, replacing Season 1 of The Night Agent. This happened after the show brought in 98.2 million views in its first 90 days, totaling 428 million hours viewed. Netflix execs love such impressive numbers, so it’s highly likely that Oldroyd will be instructed to come up with a plan for Season 2 and turn the show into an anthology.

Alice Feeney never wrote a sequel to her His & Hers novel. Any second season would thus require the writing room to either create an original story or adapt a different book. Here’s what Oldroyd had to say when TV Guide asked him about Season 2.

“It was conceived as a limited series. We didn’t think beyond that. I think we’ve created some great characters. The twist is terrific, and the audience is really reacting to it. They’re really responding to this series. Again, I think you have to ask Netflix to see what plans they have. “

It seems like he is up for it if the bosses are up for it. The fans are definitely up to it, so over to you…. Netflix execs.
