Forget ‘Reacher,’ Prime Video’s Grittier Action Thriller Takes Over in 1 Month

Reacher Season 4 is finally over and has been quickly followed by an equally great spin-off in Neagley. The latest chapter of the Prime Video hit got viewers talking by updating several elements of Lee Child’s Gone Tomorrow to fit the modern world and inserting fresh subplots. This included the mention of artificial intelligence. Jack Reacher’s newfound willingness to murder defenseless adversaries also triggered much debate, but many agree the series is still at its peak.

As satisfactory as endings are, they leave a sense of emptiness behind. In case you are deeply worried about lacking something on your Prime Video watchlist over the next several weeks, there is good news. The streamer has another great show on the way. Season 2 of The Terminal List will arrive in a month, four years after the first chapter ended. The Chris Pratt-led action thriller is also perfect if Reacher doesn’t appeal to you, as it’s grittier, twistier, and more labyrinthine in its plotting.

Reacher Season 4 impressed with its ambitious plot revolving around Congress, the CIA, and the Pentagon. It’s now my second favorite season of the Prime Video series after Season 1. However, the tone was the same as before. The adaptation has always leaned on pulpy fun, light tales, well-choreographed fights, and a sense of humor. Contrarily, The Terminal List embraces its conspiracy roots more tightly and unfolds differently, with fewer fights and more information gathering. Additionally, most scenes are plastered with tension and dread.

The approach is fitting since The Terminal List is a show about a Navy SEAL whose platoon and family die under mysterious circumstances. The entire first chapter revolves around the search for answers and the pursuit of revenge. In line with that, Chris Pratt’s James Reece is characterized much differently. He isn’t something of a real-life hulking superhero who has quick answers to every problem he encounters. Reece is a grieving and paranoid man forced to watch each of his steps during his dangerous quest.

Accordingly, The Terminal List’s villains are more influential and mysterious. So far, Reacher‘s villains have been small-town crime lords and, in the latest season’s case, two daring Indonesian assassins doubling as crime opportunists. Jack Reacher often has an easy time against the evildoers, as he tends to use his fighting skills whenever they prove that they have no intention of folding up their tents and surrendering.

Pratt’s show is bulkier in scope and darker thematically, implicating senior, shifty-eyed, odious government figures and the military-industrial complex in a major injustice. The masters of malevolence are harder to beat, so Reece lurks, monitors, and darts — and, when necessary, he unleashes rippling, speaker-destroying bursts of automatic-weapons fire. The show thus feels like a realistic clean-the-systemic-rot lone wolf saga rather than a standard punch-’em-up adventure.

‘The Terminal List’ Season 2 Has a Perfect Premiere Date

Season 2 of The Terminal List will arrive on Oct. 21, 2026. While combing through social media, I found a complaint about this, with the user wondering why Prime Video couldn’t just schedule it for this month, too, to keep the good times going. After all, Neagley arrived as a complete first chapter, meaning many subscribers might have nothing to watch by next week.

The concern is valid, as the wait has been agonizing enough. Four years is a long time, especially if you’re opposed to the streaming trend of dropping a new season years after the last one. A consistent release schedule is always likely to keep viewers around, and it’ll be interesting to see whether the new season of The Terminal List will do big numbers like the first one. In 2022, the action thriller series came in at No. 3 on the Nielsen chart with 1.1 billion minutes viewed across all eight episodes (per Variety).

However, the release date is ideal if you’ve never watched the Chris Pratt-led series at all. Between now and Oct. 21, there is ample time to not only cover all eight episodes of the first season, but also enjoy the seven additional episodes of the spin-off, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, which premiered in 2025. Once the new season arrives, you’ll be ready and eager, with past proceedings fresher in your mind compared to those who watched the episodes when they first came out.

No matter which side of the inconvenience scale you find yourself on, you are likely to smile in the end, grateful for getting so many action treats in one year. There haven’t been many better eras for the action genre on television. And Prime Video is leading the charge on that.
