Beauty queen fighting for life after boys, 4, and 6, ‘steal car and crash into her’ | World | News

A woman is fighting for her life after two brothers aged just four and six allegedly stole their parents’ car, went for a dangerous joyride and ploughed into her as she was walking her dog. Kiara Darvonne Bowling, 31, was crowned Miss California Regency International 2026.

Kiara has suffered multiple brain injuries in crash and remains in a life-threatening condition at Highland Hospital in Oakland, USA, according to her family. The incident unfolded on the morning of Thursday (August 6), in East Oakland. Police believe the older boy, who is reportedly aged six, managed to get hold of the keys to a white Toyota Camry used by his dad.

The child reportedly took the keys from his sleeping father’s pocket, woke his four-year-old brother, and dragged a kitchen chair to the front door to unlatch the top lock.

Then, the pair reportedly slipped out while their parents slept. The older brother then allegedly took the wheel, with the four-year-old in the passenger seat, ABC 7News Bay Area.

At around 9.15am, near 35th and Mangels avenues, the Camry reportedly swerved into oncoming traffic, sideswiped another vehicle, then lost control and slammed into Bowling as she stepped off the curb to cross the street while walking a friend’s emotional support dog.

The car then reportedly crashed into a retaining wall and fence.

The dog was initially injured and ran off, but was later found and treated by a vet, People reported.

Bowling is in intensive care and has already undergone multiple emergency operations for multiple brain bleeds, internal bleeding and severe facial fractures.

Her family told KTVU Fox 2 she has started responding to very basic commands, but faces a long and uncertain recovery.

Her sister, Christina Blackmon said: “She’s currently still fighting extremely hard for her life. She is currently suffering from multiple brain bleeds and facial fractures. We’re just hoping for a true speedy recovery.”

The older child reportedly suffered a broken leg and the younger boy a concussion. Despite the devastation, her family has said they hold no malice toward the children.

A GoFundMe has been launched to cover her mounting medical costs and can be found by searching her verified legal name: “Kiara Darvonne Bowling”.
