A young woman was allegedly gang raped and killed before her naked body was dumped in a well. Police have since launched an immediate investigation but the suspects remains at large.
The woman, 22, reportedly left her home on Wednesday evening (August 19) when the suspects started following her. They then allegedly raped and murdered the victim, removed her clothing, and disposed of her body in a well before fleeing the scene. The woman’s family soon reported her missing before police launched a search to find her. They eventually found her body in the well on Thursday morning and detectives are now working to track down the suspects.
As reported by Udayavani.com, the attack took place in the town of Sirwar, located in the Indian state of Karnataka. Local police have identified the victim as 22-year-old Ashwini Thimmareddy.
She was out on a walk at around 7pm when the alleged attackers, identified as Gundya Ramanna, 22, Mahantesh Huligappa, 22, Veeresh Rajappa, 23, and 45-year-old Basavaraj Mahadev. started following her. They then reportedly approached her before carrying out the attack and dumping her body in the well.
After being reported missing, Mrs Thimmareddy’s family found her slippers and watter bottle near the well. Police then recovered her body before launching an urgent investigation.
However, the suspects remains at large and officers from Sirwar Police Station are continuing to appeal for help to track them down. They are keen to hear from witnesses who may have relevant information that may help their investigation.
Senior officers, such as Superintendent of Police Arunangshu Giri and Deputy Commissioner Poovitha, visited the crime scene on Thursday. They said forensic evidence has been gathered and an investigation is underway.
Sirwar is a town in the Raichur district of Karnataka. It has a population of around 20,000 people but serves as a hub for roughly 30 surrounding villages.
