Building on over half a century of animated and live-action stories, Netflix is now set to bring a new chapter of Scooby-Doo to life in a new live-action series. Starring the classic gang of teenagers (Shaggy Rogers, Fred Jones, Velma Dinkley, and Daphne Blake) and their talking Great Dane, the Scooby gang operates as a group called Mystery Incorporated, solving spooky mysteries and, more often than not, finding out the perpetrators are nothing but criminals in masks.
Along with dozens of animated shows and movies, director Raja Gosnell and writer James Gunn (now serving as co-CEO of DC Studios) brought the team into live-action in 2002 and 2004, putting Matthew Lillard (Shaggy), Freddie Prinze Jr. (Fred), Linda Cardellini (Velma), and Sarah Michelle Gellar (Daphne) in the spotlight for the main roles. In 2009 and 2010, Cartoon Network hosted two more rebooted live-action movies, replacing that crew with Robbie Amell (Fred), Nick Palatas (Shaggy), Hayley Kiyoko (Velma), and Kate Melton (Daphne Blake). Now, as Netflix prepares to tell a new story about the Scooby gang, the streamer has its own cast of actors to share with the world.
Netflix confirmed the main cast of actors playing Shaggy, Fred, Velma, and Daphne in the upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo reboot. The food-loving Shaggy will be played by Tanner Hagen, while Fred, known for his love of plans and traps, will be portrayed by Maxwell Jenkins. Meanwhile, Abby Ryder Fortson will play Velma, the brains of the operation, and McKenna Grace will embody the role of Daphne, the team’s most fashion-forward member.
More to come…
