Millions of state pensioners are missing out on an extra £ 1,000 per year. Those aged 66 and above and living with health conditions may be entitled to additional financial support to cover extra costs. Attendance Allowance is a tax-free benefit for pensioners with disabilities or a health condition that requires you to have someone to help look after you.
The allowance is paid on a weekly basis and at two different rates depending on the level of care you need on the basis of your disability or health condition. Those of state pension age or older, with a physical disability, a mental disability, or a health condition, could get £76.70 or £114.60 a week, which translates to £5,959.20 if you’re receiving the higher rate.
Your disability or health condition is severe enough for you to need help caring for yourself or someone to supervise you, for your own or someone else’s safety
Needed that help for at least six months
You must also be in Britain when you claim, have been in Britain for at least two out of the last three years, be a habitually resident in the UK, Ireland, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands, not subject to immigration control, and not get any of the following benefits:
Personal Independence Payment
Scottish Adult Disability Living Allowance
Armed Forces Independence Payment
You could also claim Attendance Allowance if you’re in a care home, but that is only if you pay all your care home costs yourself.

Details of your care home, hospital or hospice if you’re currently staying in one

After you send your claim, you’ll get a text or letter within 3 weeks that explains when you can expect a decision.
Once a decision is made, you’ll get a letter explaining the outcome, and if awarded, it will also inform you of when you will get your first payment.
