While the King and Queen endure the unflattering publicity caused by Earl Spencer’s new Diana biography, others prove more outspoken on their behalf. A lifelong friend of Camilla, who is godmother to her brother Henry, short-fused television presenter Kirtsie Allsopp rages: “The hypocrisy of Charles Spencer…now attacking the King, really gets my goat.”
Daughter of the late Baron Hindlip, who also became a good pal of Diana’s, Kirstie makes unflattering reference to the Althorp-based Earl’s three divorces, before cuttingly adding: “Here’s a thought. If Prince Charles hadn’t married Lady Diana Spencer, where would Earl Spencer be now? Not easy maintaining a big house like that without all the extra fame and fortune gained from [being] a famous sibling.”
Royal tradition revived
With Prince George adapting to life down the road from Windsor Castle at Eton, the King intends to revive a family tradition.
Conscious that Prince William used to be regularly invited to Windsor for afternoon tea with his late grandmother the Queen when boarding at Eton in the 1990s, Charles now plans to host his eldest grandson in similar fashion.
All forgotten now
As the perils of artificial intelligence are debated across the globe, Dame Helen Mirren gushes: ‘You know, AI is amazing…oh, it’s incredible!”
The very same Dame Helen made headlines in 2024 when she delighted Hollywood folk by tearing up an AI-generated speech at the American Cinematheque Awards, fashionably protesting at its growing presence in the film industry.
We all have our weaknesses….
Confirming he’s officially abandoned vegetarianism, Gyles Brandreth explains: ”I’m now eating fish and meat. I felt I was being a bit negative to the rest of the world, so now I’m including everything.’
I’m reminded that publicity-hungry Gyles’s commitment to the cause had long been questionable, courtesy of an ongoing weakness for bacon and spam.
No way to speak!
Having spent the summer at her home in St Tropez, Dame Joan Collins fumes: “I used to love travelling by plane and I would be filled with excitement and anticipation before a trip. Not any more. Today, plane travel is hell.”
Confronted by a gruff airport employee, the glamorous jet-setter was irked after being bluntly ordered: “Take off your hat, your sunglasses, your jewellery, your shoes, your coat.”
That’s no way to speak to Joanie!
Banging out bangers
Recently engaged to American musician John Zambetti, Bond girl Jane Seymour (divorced four times) grandly announces: “I have become John’s muse. He has put out four albums inspired by me. I will say something and he’ll be like, ‘Stop, don’t say any more.” And the next thing I know, there is this beautiful song.’”
Best keep banging those tunes out, John…
The PROPER way
Appearing on screens as the new Great British Bake Off judge from next week, Nigella Lawson confesses her enthusiasm for the job has been getting the better of her.
Advised by colleague Paul Hollywood to “take smaller mouthfuls”, the Domestic Goddess protests: “I take big bites to taste things properly.”
