A little over a month after its debut, Prime Video‘s raunchy R-rated series continues to dominate on streaming despite a couple of newcomers coming after its crown. Released on May 13, the eight-episode show blends college romance, coming-of-age drama, and lots of heat to deliver something that viewers can’t seem to get enough of.
Starring Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli, Prime’s spicy smash centers on the unlikely romance between a music student and a charismatic hockey star after a fake dating arrangement turns into something very real. Based on the novel by Elle Kennedy, the first season is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a stellar 91% rating, while its Popcornmeter score sits at a healthy 88% from viewers.
Prime Video’s Raunchy Hit Reigns Supreme on Streaming
Titled Off Campus, the R-rated smash has drawn comparisons to HBO’s Heated Rivalry thanks to the hockey connection between the two, but underneath, they couldn’t be more different. Where Heated Rivalry is a mature romantic drama that focuses on a male-male relationship, Off Campus features more lighthearted comedy as it explores the relationship between a man and a woman. The former also focuses on the two leads over the course of a few years, whereas the latter features an ensemble cast and really hones in on college life, friendships, and dating.
Similarities and differences aside, it’s clear that Off Campus has been a huge hit for Prime Video either way you slice it. Since its debut, the show has been dominating the streaming charts, bouncing between the #1 and #2 positions along with Spider-Noir. That being said, for the week of June 8–14, it was Off Campus that took the crown, coming in as the most-watched series across all of Prime based on Amazon’s own rankings released yesterday.
Of course, Off Campus will have some stiff competition in the weeks to come, as hot on its heels is another R-rated series also based on a book by Carley Fortune titled Every Year After. Premiering on June 10, the eight-episode romance is already making a splash, as it came in second for the same reporting period, and currently sits as the #1 series on Prime Video based on the daily rankings provided by Flix Patrol.
When Does ‘Off Campus’ Season 2 Come Out?
With Season 1 of Off Campus in the bag, the question now becomes: when will Season 2 be released? Amazon already renewed the show for another outing three months before it came out, signifying that they expected the series to do big things. They were right, and filming on Season 2 got underway on June 1.
Unfortunately, that means there will still be a bit of a wait for Off Campus Season 2. However, don’t expect it to be like a Netflix series that takes three years to come back, as the raunchy favorite is expected to land on Prime Video in 2027, roughly around May or June. Season 2 will be based on the third book in Kennedy’s series, The Score, which focuses on the relationship between Dean Di Laurentis and Allie Hayes.
