Royal Ascot Preview
Royal Ascot is steeped in history, firmly aligned with the Royal Family as not only do the King & Queen own horses that often frequent this meeting but are also in attendance through the week.
It is easily the most popular meeting over five days with over a quarter of a million racegoers in attendance.
It’s no surprise either as there’s £10m in prize money on offer bringing the best talent in the country and across the world hoping to get that coveted Royal Ascot victory.
The first Royal Meeting at Ascot was all the way back in 1768 and the racecourse itself has been open since 1711!
It makes a great location for a galloping course which Queen Anne attested to: “ideal for horses to gallop at full stretch”.
Royal Ascot provides various components that make it the meeting it is today, with dress codes and a certain air of glamour but the horses take centre stage and you can tell with punters turning up in their droves to watch the best few days of flat racing.

talkSPORT BET man Ryon Scott-Douglas explains: “Wednesday was tough for punters in the main, True Love (9/4) and My Cloud (3/1) the only two favourites to win.
“Cinderella’s Dream, Los Angeles and Rainbows Edge were big losers for us and luckily all beat. As we go into day 3 the bookies are in front!
“Today, interestingly punters are not all over Illinois in the Gold Cup, perhaps wary of the stamina doubts, lots being backed in that race.
“It’s one way traffic for Aidan O’Brien’s in the Norfolk however, Charles Darwin smashed into 8/11f having opened 13/8 when the declarations came in.”

Rosallion & Docklands
Rosallion is a great price for the Queen Anne stakes on Tuesday week.
The colt trained by Richard Hannon has the boost of the yard being bang in form and should benefit like he has before of a first run of the season.
He was second to Notable Speech on reappearance last year for the 2000 Guineas, before going on to win at both The Curragh and Royal Ascot.
Winning the St James’s Palace Stakes by a neck to Henry Longfellow.
He wasn’t seen until 333 days later where he placed third behind Lead Artist and Dancing Gemini.
While he was beaten well on that occasion it’s important not to read too much into that one run, given how he was keen early and really should bounce back here.
Docklands was just beaten in third by Persica in the Group 3 Diomed Stakes but finished strongly.
His return to Ascot, where he really thrives, gives his current price of 25/1 real appeal as that will at least on the day pay out with extra places too as he’s never finished outside the top three here.
Docklands placed second in this race last year at 10/1 and even won the Britannia Stakes in 2023, each over the straight mile.
Field Of Gold
This Kingman colt really confirmed his ability when winning by nearly four lengths to Cosmic Year in the Group 1 Irish 2,000 Guineas in May.
That came after just being beaten by Ruling Court in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket but that race also franked his win over Wimbledon Hawkeye, coping with the step up into a very competitive Group 1.
He’s now won four times from seven attempts as well as three Stakes races from just five runs.
There’s a small chance he’s go into the Coral-Eclipse as well in July but he’s evens to win this and there’s no chance they don’t attempt to take the near £400k prize money with the clear favourite.
Los Angeles
Has always been a top horse for Aidan O’Brien under Ryan Moore mostly too, and confirmed that his uncharacteristic ninth of 11 runners at Ascot in October was just an off day when winning twice in May at the Curragh.
Reversing that form against Anmaat by quite some distance having been over eight lengths off him at Ascot.
It did seem to be that the Ascot run may have been too quick after his Longchamp outing in the Arc, just 13 days so he has unfinished business here.
Any kind of placing here will take his earnings to beyond £2m an incredible achievement for a four-year-old on just his third start this season.
Inisherin
We go straight into the Saturday with a tip for the Group 1 6f Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes.
Inisherin won by a neck under Moore at York last month, bouncing back gamely after two surprising losses.
He is back now and should be even better on his second run as a four-year-old and should be benefiting from that wind op back in March even more too.
He won the Commonwealth Cup last year at Royal Ascot by over two lengths and looks a great contender for this Group 1 at a meeting he’s already shown he’s capable of winning at.
