Harry Bosch is once again returning to TV, but not in the way fans might think. A new spinoff titled Bosch: Start of Watch has officially been greenlit, and will explore the early years of everyone’s favorite detective. Cameron Monaghan is set to play the role made famous by Titus Welliver in the popular crime drama, but this time around, fans will have to subscribe to yet another streaming service if they want to watch it.
Per Variety, Bosch: Start of Watch will be set in 1991 and focus on the titular character when he was a young rookie in the LAPD. However, unlike the original series and the latest entry in the franchise, Ballard, Start of Watch won’t be available on Prime Video. Instead, fans will have to subscribe to MGM+ if they want to see it, meaning it’ll cost viewers an additional $6.99/month to tune in.
In addition to Monaghan, who is perhaps most famous for his role as Ian Gallagher on the series Shameless, Bosch: Start of Watch also stars Omari Hardwick (Power) as veteran officer Eli Bridges. Production on the new prequel is slated to get underway next year, and you can check out the official synopsis below:
“Bosch: Start of Watch will explore a city on the edge, teeming with racial tension, gang violence, and a fractured LAPD. Amid routine calls and growing unrest, Bosch finds himself drawn into a high-profile heist and a web of criminal corruption that will test his loyalty to the badge and shape his future as the detective who lives by the code, ‘Everybody counts or nobody counts.'”
