Park City has been known for decades as the quintessential winter wonderland — a place to schuss the slopes, but it has a secret summer alter ego. Certainly still a top draw for the snow set, it becomes a bustling playground for mountain bikers and outdoor lovers. Complete with a bustling Main Street, first-rate lodging, and what happens to be off-peak rates that make it an even more desirable destination, Park City has perfected the mix of adventure and relaxation in the summertime.
Located just 40 minutes from the bustling Salt Lake City airport, we began our trip by checking into The Lowell, a luxurious property at the base of Park City, managed by Park City Lodging. This accommodation is part of a vast portfolio of over 250 properties across Park City and Deer Valley, making it easy for travelers to find the perfect spot to unwind. Our stay included a spacious condo with a wrap-around patio and a private hot tub—ideal for soaking after a day packed with exciting outdoor activities.
Over the course of four thrilling days, we delved into the wide array of summer adventures Park City has to offer. The town is a paradise for mountain bikers, with miles of varied trails. A standout is Deer Valley’s Gold Medal Mountain Bike Center, which boasts 70 miles of lift-accessed bike trails that cater to all skill levels. My favorite was the Ripple trail, which not only offered an exhilarating ride but had me humming a Grateful Dead tune to take my mind off the narrow path. After several hours of biking, a delicious lunch at the Stein Eriksen Lodge’s patio was a much-needed reward.
For those seeking more laid-back trails, Park City offers a wealth of options just a short drive away. One of the highlights of our trip was riding the Slate Creek trails in the nearby Uinta Mountains. Thanks to a local provider offering state-of-the-art mountain bikes, the steep climbs became more manageable, and the thrilling descents felt less intimidating.
Our final day included a relaxing fly fishing experience with seasoned guides from a local outfitter. After some hands-on instruction, we quickly mastered the art of casting and were soon reeling in several trout, which we carefully released back into the waters. It was the perfect way to slow down after days of high-energy activities.
As we worked up an appetite with all the outdoor action, Park City’s food scene proved to be just as exciting. We kicked off with a tasting of exceptional spirits at High West Distillery at the Pendry Hotel, followed by a refreshing cider tasting at Dendric Estate, a fast-growing cider and spirits brand. This experience was complemented by a delicious spread from Done To Your Taste, making it a perfect post-bike indulgence.
The trip culminated in the annual Savor the Summit event, where Park City’s historic Main Street was transformed into a lively, open-air dining experience. Restaurants lined the streets with beautifully arranged tables, offering private five-course meals that made for a truly memorable evening. The street party atmosphere was a fitting conclusion to a trip that had highlighted the very best of Park City’s summer offerings—an exciting mix of outdoor adventure, world-class dining, and unmatched natural beauty.
Park City’s ability to shine in both winter and summer proves it’s a year-round destination. From thrilling outdoor activities and top-notch accommodations to exceptional dining and vibrant street events, the town offers something for everyone, making it an unmissable retreat for those seeking both adventure and relaxation.
