CBP Officer Shot in the Face by Illegal Immigrant in Attempted Robbery

An illegal immigrant accused of shooting a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer in New York City on Saturday night has been arrested, while a second suspect remains at large.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released surveillance footage of the two assailants involved in the “ambushing and shooting” of the CBP officer before leaving the scene.

Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, a national and citizen of the Dominican Republic, has since been captured.

Two years ago, Nunez was apprehended at the southern border in San Luis, Arizona, but released, according to DHS.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed on X that the previously deported Dominican illegal alien had a kidnapping warrant out of Massachusetts and prior felony arrests.

NTD reached out to DHS for additional details on the second suspect.

The footage released by DHS captured the moment the suspect approached the officer from behind while the other suspect on a motorcycle or motorized scooter stood nearby and watched. After the suspect shot the officer, the latter drew his weapon and fired at the suspect, the video shows.

According to DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin, the officer, who was on-duty at the time, was hospitalized and remains in stable condition.

President Donald Trump commended the officer for fighting back against the shooter.

“The CBP Officer bravely fought off his attacker, despite his wounds, demonstrating enormous Skill and Courage,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott also praised the unidentified officer for springing into action despite being shot in the face.

“Our CBP Officer in NYC showed extraordinary courage last night—shot in the face by an illegal alien & still fought back to help bring his attacker into custody,” Scott wrote on X. “This violent criminal never should’ve been on our streets. This is exactly why we fight every day to secure this nation. We’re praying for the officer & his family.”

The case continues, with the New York Police Department investigating the incident, according to DHS.

The Trump administration has arrested and deported thousands of criminal illegal immigrants across the country in its nationwide crackdown on illegal immigration.

DHS has highlighted the dangers that federal agents have faced during their enforcement of Trump’s directive.

Assaults against federal officers and agents have risen nearly 700 percent, according to Noem, who said that people are attempting to reveal the identities of federal agents to target them and their families with threats and intimidation.
