Zendaya is currently tearing up the small screen in HBO’s smash hit, Euphoria, but all good things must come to an end. When the series airs its final episode of Season 3 on May 31, it is expected to be the show’s last. While it’s had a great run, it’s become just too difficult to wrangle its ensemble cast together, many of whom have become major players in Hollywood since Euphoria began and have gone on to have successful film careers. Case in point: a 2024 drama that starred Zendaya as a tennis star-turned-coach who finds herself with her husband (Mike Faist) on one side of the court, and her ex-boyfriend (Josh O’Connor) on the other.
Produced for $55 million, the film went on to gross $96 million at the box office by the time its theatrical run was over. Not a great number, but not bad, either. Surprisingly, the steamy R-rated sports drama earned rave reviews from critics, who praised director Luca Guadagnino for taking what could have been a film about your basic love triangle and turning it into something stylish, tense, funny, and emotionally messy. As a result, the movie holds a Certified Fresh rating of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critic Wesley Lovell from Cinema Sight writing:
“Director Luca Guadagnino has some skill at pulling great performances out of his actors. Faist, O’Connor, and Zendaya are all strong. They were already skilled talents, but this showcases their abilities on a more intimate scale.”
Zendaya’s R-Rated Smash Comes to Free Streaming
If you haven’t guessed by now, the film in question is Challengers, which is currently only available to stream with a subscription to Hulu or Disney+. However, all that will change come June 1 when the film makes its free streaming debut.
Tubi will be adding Challengers to its June lineup along with a plethora of other great films. In addition to the Zendaya-led hit, the free streaming service will also be featuring the David Fincher classic, Seven, the Ben Affleck thriller, The Sum of All Fears, and a few 80s classics, like Wargames, Spaceballs, and Big Trouble in Little China. For Euphoria fans, Sydney Sweeney‘s spicy R-rated thriller, The Voyeurs, is already streaming on Tubi if you just can’t wait for Challengers to arrive next month.
What’s Next for Zendaya After ‘Euphoria?’
While Euphoria might be coming to an end, Zendaya is perhaps busier than ever. She’ll be appearing in no less than three big screen features this year, all of which are expected to do big business at the box office.
First up is Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, in which she’ll play Pallas Athena. Look for the epic fantasy film to hit theaters on July 17. Following that one, Zendaya will make her return to the Spider-Man franchise in Brand New Day, reprising her role of Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson when it hits cinemas just a couple of weeks after The Odyssey on July 31.
Finally, Zendaya will also be returning to another popular franchise this year: Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. Part Three of the ongoing space opera will see her once again take on the role of Chani Kynes – a character she played in the first two movies. Look for the final film in the epic trilogy to be released on Dec. 18.
